Welcome to the 4th edition of the Spacewell Energy (Dexma) Partner Spotlight! This month we are highlighting Norlys (formerly known under Eniig), the third-largest electricity supplier in Denmark.
Eniig now Norlys, a word that means “united” in Danish, is also a cooperative, owned by nearly 400,000 members. The group was formed by a merger between EnergiNord, EnergiMidt and Aalborg’s Himmerlands Elforsyning (HEF) and today consists of 1,000 employees.
For this edition of the Spacewell Energy (Dexma) Partner Spotlight, we spoke with Martin Brix Kortegaard from Eniig’s energy management technology consulting division. Read on for some of the best snippets of our conversation:
Congratulations on celebrating your first year as a member of our Partner Community this past June! What made you decide to become a Spacewell Energy (Dexma) partner in the first place?
Thanks 🙂
We actually looked at Spacewell Energy (Dexma) Energy Intelligence Platform for a long time before we made our final decision. We just went through a merger process to become part of the Norlys group, during which we saw the opportunity to take a big step up on the EMS market ladder by partnering with Spacewell Energy (Dexma).
What are the top 3 pain points you encounter most often from Eniig (Norlys) C&I (corporate and industrial) customers? What are their main worries when it comes to energy management?
Often our C&I customers are worried if they have the resources to actually act on the findings, insights and savings opportunities that are identified and proven by energy management software and services.
There is also quite a bit of uncertainty around data. We have talked with many commercial and industrial (C&I) customers who already have an energy management system (EMS) in place. But if we then ask if they analyse, act, and control based on the actual data, in almost every case – the answer is no.
How do you manage to “connect the dots” between your service offering and the Spacewell Energy (Dexma) platform to meet end-customer needs and energy goals?
To relieve these aforementioned “pain points”, we involve our energy consultants and our EMS consultants who use Spacewell Energy (Dexma) to support our end customers in the Analyse, Act and Control cycle.
How do you tackle the Nordic markets with an energy efficiency offering when the energy costs are relatively low?
Even though Denmark is one of the most energy-efficient countries in the world, we still have some very ambitious energy efficiency goals to reach. These are detailed in our “National Energy Efficiency Action Plan” (NEEAP).
For example this year we are obligated to help our customers to reduce energy consumption by 175 GWh.
What insights can you share on the energy management market and energy efficiency uptake in Denmark specifically?
We see an increased focus on energy management, and especially on energy management software in the Danish market.
Some insights into our world would be some new ambitious growth goals for 2020. We have already onboarded a couple of account managers, so we are able to reach these growth goals.
Something more specific to us is that our energy services are highly focused on generating savings in the district heating sector, which covers 60% of space heating and water heating in Denmark.
After your one-year relationship with Spacewell Energy (Dexma), where have we met (or exceeded) expectations as your energy analytics partner?
Spacewell Energy (Dexma) exceeded our expectations with the level of flexibility in the software. We are also happy with the number of analysis tools offered by the platform. It’s also good to know we can develop our own apps thanks to the open API.
Name 3 energy-related innovations at the top of your mind that you see disrupting our industry in the next 5 years:
IoT, then Big Data. I also think we will see more cooperation between utilities.
Let’s hear your top 3 reasons for business customers to save energy with Norlys:
We are a highly skilled company, with 25-30 energy consultants whose main focus is to detect and realise energy savings.
Second, we are working with the best energy management software on the market 🙂
Finally, we have the know-how our customers need in order to implement highly demanding regulations and standards such as ISO 50001, 14001 and so on.
